One would not exaggerate by saying that the
outcome of Taraba state governorship
election was one of the most expected by
Nigerians.
Unlike in many other states, it was not
evident, who would emerge winner of
the polls. Analysts had predicted that the
competition would be quite tough
between the Peoples Democratic Party
and the All Progressives Congress.
But more interestingly, it is the first time
in the history of the country a woman
(Aisha Al-Hassan, APC) might emerge
the governor.
On April 13, Monday, the Independent
National Electoral Commission
declared the April 11 polls in the state
inconclusive, because the total number
of votes rejected and cancelled were
more than the total vote with which
PDP’s Darius Ishaku led Aisha Al-Hassan
of the APC.
In figures, the PDP polled 317,198 votes,
while the APC received 262,386. The PDP
loyalists got disappointed with the INEC
announcement, while the APC supporters
received a new hope.

See how Nigerians reacted to the
development.
While some backed Mrs Al-Hassan, the
others shared quite angry comments
insisting there was no place for a woman
in the Nigerian politics.
Naij.com readers took to Facebook to
express the opinion on the issue:
Oladele Odeyemi: “Am not too sure that a
deep northern state will be ready for a
woman governor now. She can be
schemed out.”
Mike Terry Inegbese: “We hoping for first
female governor…”
Mohammed Musa: “Hope she wins and be
an eye open to other women
contendants. Gender equality is
paramount in democracy and
democratization process especially in
Nigeria Politics.”
Goddish A Bank: “ You people should not
be deceived woman can’t win…after
counting them will tell you stories…
mama go cook for your husband…you
are a helper to man.”
